Sarasota County staff members are inviting residents to become involved with the update of the county’s Trails Master Plan, the county has announced.

The process will include conducting an inventory of the county’s existing trails and identifying future needs, a news release explains. The existing plan has not been revised since 2006, the release points out.

“Sarasota County has more than 825 miles of trails that provide options for recreation and healthy transportation, as well as great economic benefits,” said Patrick Lui, Sarasota County bicycle, pedestrian and trails coordinator, in the release. “Updating our Trails Master Plan will help us identify opportunities to make our trail system safer, better connected and even more enjoyable.”

The public may take part in the process by attending any of the following meetings, the release points out:

  • May 11: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gulf Gate Library, located at 7112 Curtiss Ave. in Sarasota.
  • May 11: 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Jacaranda Library, located at 4143 Woodmere Park Blvd. in Venice.
  • May 12: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the North Port Library, located at 13800 S. Tamiami Trail in North Port.
  • May 13: 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Sarasota County Administration Center, located at 1660 Ringling Blvd. in Sarasota.
