Weeklong and daily passes offered by SCAT
The 2017 World Rowing Championships is teaming up with Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) and Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) to transport spectators to the international competitions “in a cost effective and eco-friendly way,” the event organizers have announced.
Bus service to Nathan Benderson Park is available near all designated World Rowing spectator hotels, a news release notes.
In addition, from Sept. 23 to Oct. 1, SCAT will begin its Route 36 service, which will take riders from the Downtown Sarasota Transfer Station to the University Town Center Transfer Station, which is located within walking distance of Benderson Park, the release adds. “The number 36 is based on 1936, a year the United States men’s eight boat won gold at the Olympics, and the subject of the best-selling book, The Boys in the Boat,” the release points out
The 2017 World Rowing Championships is offering a weeklong pass (seven days) for $20 per person. Those individuals 65 and older may purchase the pass for $10 each, the release adds.
Weeklong passes may be purchased at the following locations:
- Downtown Sarasota Transfer Station, located at 1525 First St. in downtown Sarasota.
- SCAT Transit Administration, located at 5303 Pinkney Ave. in Sarasota.
- Cattlemen Road Station, located at 500 N. Cattlemen Road in Sarasota.
Daily passes will be available, as well, but only on board a bus; cash will be the accepted form of payment, the release notes.
Depending on the specific location, bus service to or from Benderson Park may take 15 to 60 minutes, the release points out. To map out routes, visit: https://www.scgov.net/government/departments/scat-bus- service.
