Sarasota County Utilities crews are repairing a water main break that has interrupted service to at least 125 customers on Siesta Key, between North Shell Road and South Shell Road, the county announced late this afternoon, July 20.

The area includes Roberts Point Road, Somerset Drive, Hamilton Club, Little Pond Lane and Cedar Park Circle.

Traffic is restricted to one lane until this evening, a county news release says.

Sarasota County is issuing a precautionary boil-water advisory urging affected customers to boil all water intended for drinking, preparation of food, washing of utensils, making ice, brushing teeth or for first aid, making sure the water is brought to a rolling boil for one minute.

“Boiling the tap water disinfects it, destroying any harmful microorganisms,” the county news release says. Bottled water can be used as an alternative to boiling the tap water.

County employees will collect a series of samples and analyze them to ensure the drinking water wasn’t contaminated by potentially harmful bacteria during the service interruption, the release adds. Customers will be notified by automated telephone calls when the boil-water advisory has been canceled.
