City and county offices and facilities to be closed on July 4, with garbage collection pushed back one day

The free Siesta Breeze trolley will be operating, but SCAT buses will not

City and County of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day, both local governments have announced.

Tuesday garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulk waste collections will be picked up one day later, on Wednesday, July 5, both in the city and in the unincorporated parts of the county, news releases say.

Hours of operation at City of Sarasota recreational facilities will vary on the holiday, as follows, the city release notes:

The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County also will be closed on July 4, the county news release points out, and all county libraries will be closed. Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) will not operate that day; however, the Siesta Key Breeze will be running from 8 a.m. to midnight, the county release notes.

Additionally, the central county landfill at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis; the Sarasota County Chemical Collection centers at 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota and 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice; and the Citizens Convenience Center at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be closed on July 4.

Arlington Park will be open July 4 from noon to 5 p.m., while the Payne Park Tennis Center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the county release adds.
