Fees waived
The City of Sarasota Building Division is accepting applications for emergency building permits and electrical permits for storm-related damage, the city announced on Sept. 13.
All emergency permits will be put on a fast track, and standard fees will be waived, a city news release says.
Regular building inspections on active permits were suspended until Sept. 14 while staff prioritized storm recovery permits, a city news release noted.
Emergency permits will be issued for the following, the release points out:
- Remasting on buildings ($75 fee waived).
- Electric meter cans (($75 fee waived).
- Sewer lines on private property ($75 fee waived).
- Roof ($100 fee waived).
Someone may submit an application for an emergency building permit in the following ways, the release says:
- Fax: 941-954-4178.
- In person: 1565 First St. (Annex Building).
To qualify for consideration as an emergency situation, the application must state that the work is related to Hurricane Irma storm damage, the release stresses.

“We ask for your patience,” said city Building Official Larry Murphy in the release. “We will make every effort to cover all inspections that are called in, but expect some delays while we fast track and assist those impacted by Hurricane Irma.”
