The public is invited to attend a community presentation on the proposed master plan for the Paul N. Thorpe Jr. Park and the Lemon Avenue Streetscape on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 6 p.m. at City Hall, city staff has announced.

City Hall is located in downtown Sarasota at 1565 First St.

“The proposed master plan calls for keeping the recently refurbished Mermaid Fountain and artwork in place while increasing the green space and providing shade trees for park visitors to enjoy,” a city news release explains.

To offer a more inviting open space for pedestrians, the curbing on Lemon Avenue, between State Street and Pineapple Avenue, will be removed, creating a look and feel similar to that of the Lemon Avenue Mall between First Street and Main Street, the release adds.

The proposal also includes sidewalk and street surface upgrades, as well as enhanced landscape plantings and elements, the release notes.
