County releases mowing schedule through Aug. 24

With Sarasota County last week having awarded its final interim contract for roadside mowing and median maintenance, the county has released a schedule of areas where the public can expect to see mowing getting under way this week.

The contract for the North Urban Zone went to Natural Designs Landscaping of Palmetto. The county previously awarded separate contracts for the North Rural Zone, South Urban Zone and South Rural Zone.

As with the three contracts already awarded, the Natural Designs agreement is for a six-month period, a county news release says. County staff will seek a bid for three-year mowing agreements to cover the entire county. The County Commission in late May authorized the Procurement Department staff to award mowing contracts on a month-by-month basis, for up to six months, until new, long-term bids could be awarded.

That action resulted from county staff having to dismiss the company that won the roadside bid in January after the company could not keep up with the level of work outlined in its contract.

County mowing crews will continue working in the North Urban Zone through Aug. 24 to eliminate the backlog, the news release says.

The county mowing schedule through Aug. 17, subject to weather conditions, includes the following areas:
