Sarasota County will host the 20th annual Florida Neighborhoods Conference Oct. 13-15 at the Venice Community Center, located at 326 Nokomis Ave S. in Venice, the county has announced.

“The annual statewide conference is dedicated to empowering residents to be more effective in leading their communities,” a news release explains.

Members of the public, neighborhood leaders, community association managers and local government representatives from around the state are invited to join in the three-day event, which will feature two dozen workshops, three tours, a keynote luncheon, the All State Neighborhood Awards breakfast, a 20th anniversary reception and an exhibition of neighborhood-friendly organizations and businesses, the release notes.

It includes social events “and ample time for networking with old and new friends,” the release adds

Basic registration, which costs $50, is available online at www.floridaneighborhoodsconference.org. Sarasota County and the City of Sarasota are offering a limited number of scholarships through their Neighborhood Services divisions, the release points out. If representatives of neighborhoods, homeowner organizations or condo associations are interested, they may contact staff for more information. Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) bus passes are also available to registered conference attendees; just contact Sarasota County Neighborhood Services.

The Florida Neighborhood Conference Inc. is an organization of current and retired municipal neighborhood services professionals from around the state of Florida, the release says. In 1996, neighborhood outreach staff members from various Florida communities founded the group.
