Sarasota County staff will hold three public workshops to gather public comments on revised transportation concurrency requirements, along with a draft resolution that would update the transportation analysis requirements associated with proposed new developments within the county, staff has announced.

“The resolution would reflect a multimodal transportation approach and make the requirements consistent with the Mobility Fee Ordinance,” which was adopted by the County Commission, a news release says.

Traffic concurrency continues to be a major focus of residents who have concerns about increasing congestion as a result of new construction. For example, the proposal for the Siesta Promenade mixed-use project at the intersection of Stickney Point Road and U.S. 41 has raised numerous questions from owners of neighboring homes and businesses, who are worried that between 300 and 500 new dwelling units — and commercial space — will create major difficulties for people who regularly travel through that area, especially during high tourist season.

The workshops have been scheduled as follows:

  • Friday, June 23, 2 to 3 p.m., County Administration Center, located at 1660 Ringling Blvd. in downtown Sarasota; first floor training room.
  • Monday, June 26, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Jacaranda Library, located at 4143 Woodmere Park Blvd. in Venice; meeting room.
  • Monday, June 26, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., Gulf Gate Library, located at 7112 Curtiss Ave. in Sarasota; Meeting Room B.
