Early voting for the Aug. 30 primary will begin Saturday, Aug. 20, and continue through Saturday, Aug. 27, Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent has announced.

Eligible Sarasota County voters may cast their ballots during the early voting period between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. each day at any of the following sites, a news release says:

  • Elections office in the Sarasota County Terrace Building, located at 2001 Adams Lane in Sarasota.
  • Elections office in the R.L. Anderson Administration Building, located at 4000 Tamiami Trail South in Venice.
  • Elections office in Biscayne Plaza, located at 13640 Tamiami Trail in North Port.
  • Westfield Sarasota Square Mall, located at 8201 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.

Because Florida is a closed primary state, only voters who are registered members of a political party may vote for their party’s candidates in a primary, the news release explains. All registered voters, regardless of party affiliation — including those with no party affiliation — may cast ballots in nonpartisan contests, such as school board races, and on ballot questions, such as Constitutional amendments and local referenda, the release adds.

Florida law requires a voter to present an ID with a photo and signature on it upon entering the polling place and prior to voting. A voter who appears at a polling place without such an ID will be allowed to cast a provisional ballot, the release says.

Voters who have questions may contact the Supervisor of Elections office at 861-8600 or www.SarasotaVotes.com.
