“Be a superhero and bring a child to any Sarasota County library Saturday, May 6, for Free Comic Book Day [festivities],” the county has announced.

Starting at 10 a.m. that day, every child and teen between the ages of 5 and 18 who visits any county library location will receive a free comic book, while supplies last, a county news release says.

The event is part of the international Free Comic Book Day, an effort to interest children in comics and reading, the release explains. Each year, Sarasota County libraries partner with the local comic book store The Dark Side, and each library’s Friends of the Library organization purchases the comic books that are distributed to youngsters, the release adds.
