The intersection in the city of Sarasota where the greatest number of traffic crashes occurred during the first six months of this year was Fruitville Road and Beneva Road, the Sarasota Police Department has reported.

The figure was 41.

According to data from the Florida Department of Transportation, the 2015 daily count for westbound traffic at that intersection was 52,500; for northbound vehicles, 16,000; and for southbound vehicles, 24,000.

In second place, according to the Police Department, was the intersection of University Parkway and U.S. 41, with 28 crashes.

Altogether, from Jan. 1 through June 27, the Police Department recorded 1,714 vehicle crashes, Chief Bernadette DiPino reported to City Manager Tom Barwin last week.

Twenty-four incidents were recorded at the intersection of Siesta Drive and U.S. 41, the chart shows, putting that location in third place.

“The breakdown does not include severity of accident/injury,” Barwin wrote in a June 30 email to the City Commission. “I will be asking our engineers to analyze this list for any accident patterns than might be able to be addressed on these heavily traveled corridors,” he added.

The intersection that held the rank of No. 10 was Boulevard of the Arts and Tamiami Trail, with 11 crashes, the Police Department statistics show.
