Registration will continue through Feb. 1 for the 27th Annual Gulf Coast Senior Games, which will take place Feb. 13-21 at venues throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties, Sarasota County has announced.

The two counties jointly host the event each year in an effort “to promote and maintain health and wellness for their residents” who are ages 50 and older, a news release says.

The Gulf Coast Senior Games is also a local qualifier for the 2016 Florida Senior Games State Championships, which are scheduled to be held in Clearwater Dec. 5-13, 2016, the release notes.

The entry fee is $12 per participant, with an additional payment of $3 per event to compete, the release points out. For archery, bowling, golf and tennis, further fees apply, the release adds. Each participant is given a T-shirt, the release says.

Among the competitive events offered at this year’s Senior Games are the following: archery, basketball shooting, bocce, bowling, cribbage, cycling, golf, horseshoes, pickleball, racquetball, shuffleboard, swimming, table tennis, tennis and track and field, the release adds.
