The deadline to file for a homestead exemption — a property tax benefit available to eligible homeowners — is March 1, Sarasota County Property Appraiser Bill Furst has announced.

Homeowners can receive an exemption of up to $50,000 on the assessed value of their property, a news release notes.

“The homestead exemption can save property owners hundreds of dollars each year,” Furst pointed out in the release. He encourages eligible homeowners to submit an application prior to the deadline, the release adds.

Homeowners may obtain information on eligibility and qualification requirements, as well as submit an application online, at www.sc-pa.com. For additional information call 861-8200.
