The Sarasota County Library Advisory Board (SCLAB) will host a public forum from 3 to 5 p.m., on Thursday, March 31, at the Selby Public Library, the county has announced.

This event will be the first of a series of public meetings planned to hear comments and suggestions related to library patrons’ experiences, a county news release says.

“Our duty is to stimulate citizen involvement and serve as a forum to review innovative proposals by the public,” said SCLAB member David Turner in the release. “We can’t promise that all community suggestions will lead to a new program or policy, but we pledge that all ideas will be carefully considered. We encourage everyone to attend this forum.”

SCLAB is a nine-member board that represents individual citizens as well as various neighborhoods and organizations that use, support and depend on the Sarasota County Library System, the release explains. The members are selected at-large by the Sarasota County Board of Commissioners.

The board members, who meet quarterly, “are kept apprised of ongoing library activities, staffing considerations, important programs and upcoming events,” the release notes. SCLAB also makes recommendations to the county commissioners regarding library services.

The Selby Public Library is located at 1331 First St. in downtown Sarasota.
