Nokomis Beach-goers celebrate the Summer Solstice

People are not the only ones to enjoy the first day of summer

For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, the Summer Solstice officially arrived at 12:24 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21.

One did not have to partake in any official ceremony to be able to celebrate the official start of the season when school traditionally is out, the Gulf of Mexico is that perfectly tempting temperature and fewer tourists means — potentially — more available parking.

People — and critters — on Nokomis Beach on June 21 found a variety of ways to enjoy their day.
