Members of the public are invited to “step into a simpler time as the North Port Public Library hosts its annual 1800s Christmas Celebration historical program on Sunday, Dec. 6,” Sarasota County has announced.

This family event will feature music, crafts, fashions and personalities reminiscent of 19th century Florida, a news release says. Both children and adults will “experience the wonder” of an old-fashioned Southern holiday, the release adds.

Entertainment will be provided by the North Port Chorale, Troubadour George Aldrich and the Fiddle Crabs String Band, among others, the release notes. Adults may enjoy waltzing, crafting shell boxes and seeing basket-weaving demonstrations, the release continues, while youngsters may enjoy games, toys and butter making.

The free event will run from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Hot cider and cookies will be served, the release says.

The North Port Library is located at 13800 Tamiami Trail in North Port.
