Maintenance on the Osprey Bridge, which was scheduled to begin next week, will be delayed until Monday, July 23, the City of Sarasota has announced.

During the repairs, boat clearance under the Osprey Avenue Bridge at the Hudson Bayou will be temporarily reduced by approximately 2 feet, a city news release says. The current height for clearance is approximately 8.4 feet. That will be temporarily reduced to approximately 6.5 feet, depending upon tide elevations.

The reduction in height is necessary while crews work below the water line to replace concrete embankments on both sides of the bridge, the release says.

Cofferdams will extend into the channel under the bridge and direct vessel traffic.

The work is expected to be completed in six weeks, the release says.
