Public assistance sought in locating a possibly wounded burglary suspect

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man who might have been shot during an attempted burglary Saturday night, July 7.

A woman living in the 4600 block of Stone Ridge Trail in Sarasota called 911 just before 6:30 p.m. and reported that a man had tried to enter her home by breaking a glass door at the rear of the residence, according to a Sheriff’s Office report. The woman said she fired her gun twice through the door, and the suspect screamed. Then he climbed back into his vehicle and fled the scene, the report says.

“It is not known whether he was injured or not,” a Sheriff’s Office news release notes.

Deputies immediately began searching the area and issued a “be on the lookout,” or BOLO, to all law enforcement agencies regarding the suspect and vehicle, the news release says. Detectives alerted area hospitals in several counties for possible gunshot victims, but they have not located anyone seeking medical treatment, the release adds.

The suspect is described as an Hispanic male in his 20s who is of average height and build and who is clean-shaven. The vehicle is described as a newer, clean, white SUV with a state of Florida, Tampa Bay Buccaneers license tag, the report says.
