Residents and visitors are invited to ride Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) buses for free on Tuesday, April 26, in celebration of Try Transit Day 2016, Sarasota County has announced.

Last week, the Sarasota County Commission proclaimed April 26 to be Try Transit Day. The event is a collaboration with Manatee County Area Transit, which is also offering free rides that day, and with the District One office of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), “which promotes the use of alternative commute modes to reduce traffic congestion and lower greenhouse gas emissions through its Commuter Services program,” a county news release says.

“Whether you’re headed to the beach, restaurants, shopping or anywhere in between, let SCAT take you there for no charge April 26,” the news release says. Free rides will be available that day on all fixed routes, including SCAT Express. For complete schedules and route maps, visit www.scgov.net/SCAT.
