Improvements to U.S. 41 from Browning Street to 11th Street in Sarasota — including resurfacing — will be the focus of a public meeting on Sept. 8 at Selby Library, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced.

The session will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Jack J. Geldbart Auditorium at the library, which is located at 1331 First St. in downtown Sarasota, an FDOT news release says. District One staff will be present to talk one-on-one with individuals and accept comments about the $6.2-million project, the release adds.

The work will include the resurfacing of the roadway; improving drainage; installing highway lighting, curbing and gutters; constructing sidewalks; and adding new signage and pavement markings, the release explains. The project will begin in late September and is expected to be completed during the summer of 2017, the release notes.

People who would like to attend the meeting who require special accommodations pursuant to the Americans with Disability Act, or those who require translation services (free of charge), should contact Jamie Schley at 863-519-2573 or send an email to Jamie.schley@dot.state.fl.us at least seven days prior to the meeting, the release adds.
