During the March 21 Sarasota City Commission meeting, City Manager Tom Barwin reminded Sarasota residents that work on the Coon Key Bridge (State Road 789) to St. Armands Circle will begin on April 4, with the westbound portion of the bridge reduced to one lane.

The sidewalk on that side of the bridge also will be closed to pedestrians and bicyclists, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has pointed out in a news release.

The City of Sarasota has posted a “Heads Up” on its Facebook page, as well, to warn drivers of the impending project.

The temporary lane closure is necessary while workers demolish and replace two concrete deck spans on the bridge, the FDOT news release adds.

According to FDOT bid solicitation information, the project calls for 115 contract days. Manhattan Road and Bridge of Little Rock, Ark., won the $704,300 contract.
