Sarasota County Superintendent of Schools Lori White has reassigned two principals for the 2016-17 school year, the district has announced.

Venice High School Principal Jack Turgeon, who was seriously injured in an automobile accident in March, will become an assistant director at Suncoast Technical College in Sarasota, while Riverview High School Principal Eric Jackson will become principal at Venice High, a news release says.

White determined the person who serves as principal at Venice High should be someone with experience in such a position, the news release notes. Jackson has been principal at Riverview since Linda Nook retired in 2015, the release continues. He served as principal at Tatum Ridge Elementary School from 2012-15.

The district will post the vacancy of the principal position at Riverview High, the release adds. White said she expects a new principal to be in place there when the office reopens for the new fiscal year on July 11, the release continues.

Turgeon was principal at Brookside Middle School before being named principal at Venice High in 2010. His new assignment also will be effective July 11, the release says.

Joshua Leinweber, who has been serving as acting principal at Venice High since March, will return to his duties as assistant principal, the release points out.
