The city’s newest roundabout, at Palm Avenue and Charles Ringling Boulevard, opened today, June 12, just in time for people heading home from work, City Editor Stan Zimmerman reported.

Although the first roundabout project in the pair, at Pineapple, opened about a month early, the contractor still beat the city’s announced deadline of June 15 for the second one.

Drivers who had been prevented from heading east on Ringling off U.S. 41 should have an easier time of their commute this afternoon.

The city also announced this afternoon that Osprey Avenue from Mound Street north to Ringling Boulevard has been reopened to motorized traffic.

During the recent closure, new sewer lines were successfully connected underground as part of the improvement project to build a new lift station in nearby Luke Wood Park, a city press release said.
