The Vue in downtown Sarasota to be topic of nonpartisan forum on Feb. 11

Better Government Association to host event at Selby Library

On Saturday, Feb. 11, the Better Government Association of Sarasota County will host a nonpartisan forum on the topic, The Vue: Model or Mistake?

The Vue Sarasota Bay is a condominium complex under construction at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Gulfstream Avenue. Many area residents have protested its design and the fact that the project was approved under an administrative review process of the City of Sarasota, without its being the focus of public hearings.

The presenters for the forum will be as follows, a news release says:

  • David Smith, general manager of the City of Sarasota’s Neighborhood and Development Services Department.
  • Mollie Cardamone, a Steering Committee Member of STOP! and a former Sarasota mayor and city commissioner.
  • Jennifer Ahearn-Koch, a founding member of STOP! and a former City of Sarasota Planning Board member.
  • Ken Shelin, co-chair of the Equality Florida Board and a former Sarasota city commissioner.

The forum will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 11 in the Selby Library Auditorium, which is located 1331 First St. in downtown Sarasota. Questions and comments will be taken from attendees, the release notes.

The Better Government Association was founded in 1987 to promote “good government in Sarasota County by enhancing public support for those measures that benefit our society and our neighborhoods,” its website explains.
