Lane closures on U.S. 41 between Ninth and 15th streets have been planned from Monday, Dec. 4, through Friday, Dec. 8, as contractors for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) begin preparations for the construction of the roundabouts at 10th and 14th streets in Sarasota, the City of Sarasota has announced.

Access to the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall will remain open, city staff has emphasized. However, City Manager Tom Barwin is urging patrons to arrive early for performances during that period and to plan on longer wait times to leave the Van Wezel parking areas.

“The road work also will have a modest impact on boaters,” Barwin reported on the afternoon of Dec. 1. The 10th Street Boat Ramp will be accessible only via 10th Street, he noted, and the U.S. 41 entrance will be closed temporarily.

“City staff is working closely with FDOT,” Barwin wrote in his Dec. 1 newsletter, so it can “stay on top of [the FDOT] work schedule and plans … and then share that information with residents.”

A fact sheet about the project is available about the roundabouts project, he noted, as well as a new FDOT website.
