A new website providing information about what City of Sarasota staff calls “a significant future project” on Osprey Avenue is available, the city has announced. The website may be found at www.OspreyAveImprovements.com.

The Osprey Avenue infrastructure improvement project will include upgrading major utility mains, the addition of sidewalks, new curbing and driveway aprons and the resurfacing of the road, a city news release says.

The construction will be split into segments within two phases, the release notes:

  • Phase I: Siesta Drive to Bahia Vista Road — scheduled to begin in January 2017.
  • Phase II: Novus Street to Main Street — scheduled to begin in March 2017.

“The city’s infrastructure located along this important street no longer provides the level of service to meet our standards,” said Bill Swick, the city’s project manager, in the release. “The city has a continuing program of replacing failing infrastructure,” he added in the release, “and Osprey Avenue’s time has now come. We understand there will be a level of inconvenience, and we’ll do our best to minimize the impact. We’re reaching out to residents well in advance so the community is aware of this pending project.”

To minimize motorists’ inconvenience and maximize productivity, city staff is taking extra measures to ensure the Utilities and Public Works departments’ projects are combined and the timing coordinated, the release points out.

The dedicated website, www.OspreyAveImprovements.com, provides an overview of the project and the construction schedule, and it answers frequently asked questions, the release explains. A link to the website is posted on the City of Sarasota website, www.SarasotaGov.com. The Osprey Avenue information may be found by clicking the construction hardhat icon on the city’s homepage.
