Sarasota County staff will hold a public workshop next month on the proposed Interstate 75 overpass that will connect the future Lakewood Ranch Boulevard and Cattlemen Road, the county has announced.

The workshop has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the Church of Hope, located at 1560 Wendell Kent Road in Sarasota, a news release says. During that session, the release continues, residents may learn more about the proposed project and share their suggestions and concerns.

“The proposed overpass will provide relief of traffic congestion on both University Parkway and Fruitville Road,” the release notes. Additionally, the proposal calls for the roadway to be added to the county’s Comprehensive Plan, “which would also allow for the pursuit of state and federal funding and make the project eligible for road mobility fee funding,” the release explains.

Last year, after the county held a public meeting on the overpass and its potential extension to Honore Avenue, county staff reviewed the public comments offered at that session, as well as a transportation impact assessment completed by Hanson Engineering, the release says. As a result, the overpass will not be connected to Honore Avenue, the release adds.
