The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall’s free Friday Fest event will continue on Friday, Aug. 16, “with one of Florida’s rapidly-rising bands, Reverend Barry & The Funk,” the Van Wezel has announced.

“The eight-piece band plays a high-energy set of originals and covers of funk & soul music,” including hits by Earth, Wind & Fire, the Commodores, Kool & the Gang and Prince, the release adds. “Reverend Barry & The Funk includes four Grammy®-nominated musicians and features three horn players,” the release points out. The group’s latest single, LoveShine, is being played on 28 KISS-FM stations around the country, the release notes.

Friday Fest will run from 5-9 p.m. on the bayside lawn of the Van Wezel, which is located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail near downtown Sarasota.

Each Friday Fest features food trucks, beverage vendors and more, the release notes. “Dance the night away to live music as you enjoy a summer sunset over Sarasota Bay with Reverend Barry & The Funk!” the release adds.

While blankets and lawn chairs are welcome at all Friday Fest events, outside food and drink, including coolers, are prohibited, the release stresses.
