Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner is urging Sarasota County voters to take advantage of early voting ahead of the Tuesday, Aug. 18, Primary election.

“Why wait until election day to vote?” Turner said in a news release. “Early voting provides an in-person voting experience — like on Election Day — but allows a person to vote early at any one of five sites conveniently located throughout the county,” Turner noted in the release.

To protect workers and the voting public at early voting and Election Day polling sites, the supervisor of elections is increasing safety measures, including providing face masks or face shields for poll workers and staff, routine sanitizing of surfaces and voting equipment, and the practicing of social distancing, the release points out. Voters also are encouraged to bring and use face masks and to practice social distancing when visiting early voting sites or on Election Day.

Early voting will begin Saturday, Aug. 8, and continues through Sunday, Aug. 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the five locations listed below:

  • Supervisor of Elections Office: Terrace Building, located at 2001 Adams Lane in downtown Sarasota.
  • Supervisor of Elections Office: R.L. Anderson Administration Center, located at 4000 Tamiami Trail S. in Venice.
  • Supervisor of Elections Office: Biscayne Plaza, located at 13640 Tamiami Trail in North Port.
  • Westfield Sarasota Square Mall, located at 8201 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.
  • Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Library, located at 2801 Newtown Blvd. in Sarasota

Turner said voters may vote at any one of the locations listed above. As on Election Day, he added in the release, a voter must present a photo and signature identification upon checking in at the early voting site and prior to voting. “Voters who do not present the required ID will be offered provisional ballots,” the release notes

Turner also reminds voters who choose to vote by mail that secure vote-by-mail drop boxes will be available in all early voting locations during early voting dates and times, inclusive of weekends.
