Sarasota County’s Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources (PRNR) staff members were notified last week that employees associated with the Knight Trail Park Rifle and Pistol Range had exhibited symptoms of COVID-19, the county announced on Aug. 28.

PRNR coordinated with the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County to ensure appropriate actions were taken at that location to protect staff and range visitors, a news release explained. Those measures including the closing of the range so it could be cleaned, the release said.

The facility resumed normal operations on Sept. 2, county staff reported.

“In an abundance of caution,” the Aug. 28 release continued, staff members at the range were quarantined until they had been cleared to return to work. Test results for the staff were negative, a Sept. 2 news release pointed out.

Because of the job qualifications required for safety and oversight of the pistol and rifle range, the earlier release said, alternate staffing was not available; that was why the range was closed for a few days.
