When a patient comes to Doctors Hospital of Sarasota, he or she should feel secure in the fact that it is one of the safest medical facilities in the country, hospital staff says. On April 24, when Leapfrog Group — a national nonprofit that tracks safety — released its latest hospital safety grades, Doctors Hospital earned an “A” grade once again, a news release points out.

This is the eighth consecutive time the hospital has earned that rating, the release notes.

“We have a culture here that puts patient safety and quality first,” said Robert Meade, CEO of Doctors Hospital of Sarasota, in the release. “Our team works very hard, each day and with every patient and visitor, to make sure we are delivering on that commitment,” he added in the release.

According to The Leapfrog Group, the hospital earned an “A” for its efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S., the release explains. The group assigns “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” letter grades to hospitals based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harm to patients, the release explains. The nonprofit uses 27 measures of hospital safety data to assign the grades, the release notes; hospitals are ranked twice a year.

Doctors Hospital of Sarasota also recently earned five stars for quality from the Center for Medicaid Services (CMS), the release says. “Five stars is the highest rating a hospital can receive and only five hospitals in the state of Florida earned five stars,” the release points out.

The overall star rating is based on 57 different quality measures, the release adds.
