The City of Sarasota will host a series of community meetings to gather views of the public on future improvements to Bobby Jones Golf Club, the city has announced.

Last year, the city engaged Richard Mandell Golf Architecture Inc. to develop a comprehensive Golf Course Master Plan for the historic municipal courses, a news release explains.

Mandell and his team conducted six walking tours of the three-course, 45-hole club and met with more than 100 golfers, neighbors, residents, city staff members and other stakeholders, the release points out. The resulting master plan includes recommendations and conceptual plans for potential improvements to the course. (See the related story in this issue.)

Golfers and non-golfers alike will have an opportunity to provide additional comments on the course’s future by attending any of these upcoming meetings:

  • June 13: 2 p.m. at Payne Park Auditorium, located at 2100 Laurel St.; 5:30 p.m. at Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 John Rivers St.
  • June 14:10 a.m. at City Hall in the SRQ Media Room, located at 1565 First St.;5:30 p.m. at City Hall in the SRQ Media Room.

“We pride ourselves on customer service and listening to feedback from our patrons and neighbors,” said Golf Course Manager Sue Martin in the release. “We appreciate all the opinions we’ve heard so far about our historic course, and we look forward to receiving even more community input that will help guide Bobby Jones Golf Club into its next 100 years.”

Bobby Jones Golf Club, founded in 1927, is owned and operated by the City of Sarasota.
