On Tuesday, May 21, Sarasota County staff will host a community meeting to gather comments and ideas regarding a proposed expansion of Vamo Drive Park, the county has announced.

The session will begin at 6 p.m. at Grace Church, located at 8521 Vamo Road in Sarasota, a news release says.

The County Commission voted in October 2018 to approve the acquisition of the 2.8-acre waterfront park site for the expansion of the adjacent Vamo Drive Park, the release explains.

Following a brief introductory presentation by county staff on May 21, the public will have the opportunity to provide suggestions and learn additional information, the release notes. Maps, photos and other displays will be available, as well.

For more information, call the county Contact Center at 861-5000 or visit scgov.net.

  1. I have used the Vamo drive put-in to go kayaking. No need to cross to Siesta Key for the Turtle Beach access, so less traffic. And you are directly on the natural side of the Bay, vs having to paddle past the condos and houses. But it would be good to have even a Porta-potty or more permanent facilities. Especially for those who should be rinsing off their boats.
