Minimal activity to occur on the site during the holidays, project team says
While all seems quiet at the Lift Station 87 site in the city of Sarasota, “much work continues behind the scenes to prepare for construction in 2018,” the project team has announced in its latest update.
This fall, the city selected PCL Construction of Tampa for Phase II of the project, which involves building the lift station structure in Luke Wood Park near downtown Sarasota.
The contractor will mobilize at the site the week of Jan. 1, 2018 and will begin demolishing existing structures the week of Jan. 8, a news release explains. “On-site activity will be minimal during the upcoming holidays,” the release points out.
Once the schedule has been finalized, it will be posted to
the website liftstation87.com, the release notes.
A pre-construction conference was conducted on-site with the contractor on Oct. 31, the release says. The project team is working with the contractor to review required pre-construction submittals, including proposed equipment, materials, maintenance of traffic plans and construction techniques to minimize impacts to adjacent residents and businesses, the release adds.
After the lift station becomes operational — tentatively in the spring of 2020 — it will serve about one-third of the city’s wastewater, including service for Sarasota Memorial Hospital and the surrounding medical complex, City Manager Tom Barwin has explained.
