Sarasota County announces holiday schedules

Garbage and recycling to be collected Tuesday through Saturday the weeks of Dec. 25 and Jan. 1

Most Sarasota County Government offices and facilities will be closed Friday, Dec. 22, and Monday, Dec. 25, in observance of the Christmas holiday, as well as Monday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s, the county has announced.

Collection schedules for garbage, yard waste and recycling will be delayed by one day during the weeks of Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, a news release emphasizes. Materials will be picked up Tuesday through Saturday those weeks, instead of Monday through Friday, because of the Monday holidays.

County libraries will be closed Dec. 22-25 and Jan. 1, a news release notes.

Arlington Park and Aquatic Center will be closed Dec. 23-25 and on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, the release continues. Payne Park Tennis Center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 23 and from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. It will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, the release adds.

The Knight’s Trail Park pistol and rifle range will be closed Dec. 23-25 and on New Year’s Day. It will be open normal operating hours, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on New Year’s Eve, the release says.

The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County, which is a state agency, will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, the release points out.

No Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) bus service will be provided on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1, with the exception of the free Siesta Key Breeze trolley. Regular bus service will be offered on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the release notes. SCAT administrative offices will be closed Dec. 22, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Sarasota County’s Chemical Collection Center and the ReUzIt Shop at 8750 Bee Ridge Road will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan 1. The Chemical Collection Center at 250 S. Jackson Road will be closed Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1, the release says. The Citizens’ Convenience Center at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

The Central County Landfill, located at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Sarasota, will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, the release adds. Extended disposal hours will be available 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 30 and Jan. 6 because to the holiday weeks.
