Donations welcome for April 15 event in downtown Sarasota
The Sarasota Music Archive will host a “musical flea market” this spring in an effort to raise money to support its lecture series and performances, it has announced.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, in Geldbart Auditorium at Selby Public Library, which is located at 1331 First St. in downtown Sarasota.
The public is asked to help by donating items to be sold, including the following, a news release says:
- Records, CDs or DVDs, including jazz, pop and classical collections.
- Books, sheet music, posters and art.
- Musical instruments.
- Equipment, including receivers, amps, turntables, bookshelf speakers and CD/DVD players.
- Antiques, collectables and memorabilia.
To schedule the drop-off or pickup of donations, contact Art Siciliano (arthursiciliano@yahoo.com or 781-929-5561), Dave Berry (dhberry@hotmail.com or 861-1168) or Brian Rottingen (brotting@scgov.net or 861-1174). Everyone who contributes items will receive a receipt, the release points out.
The Sarasota Music Archive is part of the Sarasota County Library System, the release explains; it is a feature of the Special Collections Department of the Selby Public Library. The archive “is one of the leading reference collections in the field of music,” containing several hundred thousand recordings, tapes, copies of sheet music, books and memorabilia, the release notes. Membership dues and private donations help to fund the archive.
