Injuries characterized as non-life-threatening

During an incident that took place about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26 in the Newtown community of north Sarasota, one adult suffered a gunshot wound and another sustained stab wounds, the Sarasota Police Department has reported.

“Both individuals were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” a news release said.

The injuries occurred in the 1800 block of John Rivers Street, the Police Department added in the release. That residential block is bound on the west by North Osprey Avenue; on the east, by Gillespie Avenue. It is west of U.S. 301 and south of the City of Sarasota’s Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, a map shows.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division,” the release pointed out. “It is believed to be an isolated incident, and the public is not in danger,” the release said.

No other details about the incident had been provided prior to the deadline for publication of this issue of The Sarasota News Leader.
