“Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMH) passed its 2023 digital health check-up with flying colors, once again earning a spot among the world’s ‘Most Wired’ hospitals,” SMH has announced.

The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) recently put the health system in the spotlight by including it in the organization’s global list of “Most Wired” hospitals for 2023, a news release explains. “One of the most extensive digital health benchmarking programs in the world,” the release notes, CHIME recognizes hospitals with digital health systems “that promote safer care and more secure hospital systems.”

CHIME’s report shows that SMH ranks in its highest category — Level 9/10 — which recognizes “leaders in healthcare technology who actively push the industry forward, leveraging new and emerging technologies in innovative ways,” the release adds. “As a result, they are realizing meaningful outcomes, including improved quality of care, improved patient experience, reduced costs, and broader patient access to healthcare services,” the organization noted in its 2023 report.

Among the advanced technologies that SMH uses to enhance outcomes are “telehealth solutions, price-transparency and cost-analysis tools, access to data at the point of care, and tools to engage patients and their families throughout the care process,” the release points out.

“Sarasota Memorial is pleased to be recognized among the industry’s digital health leaders,” said SMH Chief Information Officer Pam Ramhofer in the release. “This award is a reflection of the commitment of our information technology teams to advancing innovative technology that improves patient connectivity and care.”

“The Digital Health Most Wired survey and recognition program represents a comprehensive digital health checkup” for more than 38,000 facilities from 10 countries, the release notes. This year, SMH was one of eight Florida hospitals recognized with Level 9/10 status, and it is the only hospital on the Suncoast on this year’s list, the release points out.
