Want to help Siesta Key look its best?

Volunteers are being sought for the quarterly Adopt-A-Road clean-up along Higel Avenue, Ocean Boulevard and Siesta Drive, as well as areas on the south end of the island. The work will get under way at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 12.

Members of the Siesta Key Association and the Siesta Key Village Association, as usual, will be teaming up for the undertaking, but they welcome anyone to join them.

Village Café, at 5133 Ocean Blvd. in Siesta Village, will offer a complimentary breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. May 12 for anyone who wants to help with the clean-up. SKA and SKV members do suggest that those who enjoy the breakfast show their appreciation by being generous with tips.

SKA and SKVA members were delighted in February, they said, when they recorded their largest turnout ever for the Adopt-A-Road effort. About 18 people joined in to pick up the trash and debris.

“It was tremendous,” SKA Director Michael Shay told members during his organization’s regular meeting March 1.

The group working on Feb. 18 picked up close to 28 bags of trash, Shay added.

The organizations provide gloves and grabbers, to help with the effort.
