23-year-old Sarasota woman dies after being struck by vehicle near intersection of Ninth Street and East Avenue

Incident occurs jut before 11 a.m. on Oct. 24

The Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal, single-vehicle crash that occurred just before 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24, the department has reported.

A 23-year-old woman, who lived in Sarasota, was struck by a vehicle, a news release said. She was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where she died Monday afternoon as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, the release added.

The incident happened near the intersection of Ninth Street and East Avenue in Sarasota, the release said. That site is about a block east of Washington Boulevard, with Lime Avenue to the west.

Because of the circumstances surrounding the crash, Sarasota Police detectives, along with the agency’s Traffic Unit, responded to the scene, the release pointed out.

On Monday night, the release added, evidence from the scene was being processed and reviewed.

Then, early in the afternoon of Oct. 25, the department issued an update, saying that, based “on video and physical evidence, no criminal charges are being filed at this time.”

Nonetheless, that update added, “The investigation remains active and ongoing by the Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit. Anyone with any information regarding this case is asked to call the Sarasota Police Department at 941-263-6773.”
