New program to be showcased at Gulf Gate Library on Feb. 19

The Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources Department has launched Culture Pass, “a new initiative that provides free or discounted access to local theaters and museums for adult residents with a library card,” staff announced this week.
Library patrons may reserve a Culture Pass online by using their library cards and pin numbers, a news release explains. “Current Culture Pass venues include Asolo Repertory Theatre, the Bishop Museum of Science and Nature, Urbanite Theatre, Big Cat Habitat, Imagine Museum,” and the Museum of Fine Arts, the release notes.
“New partners will be added in the future,” it says. “A complete list of offerings may be found online.”
“The Culture Pass program is a shining example of how libraries serve the needs of our community,” said Renee Di Pilato, director of Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources, in the release. “Culture Pass makes it easier for families to enjoy the rich arts and cultural experiences our community offers by reducing cost barriers and opening doors to learning and discovery,” Di Pilato added in the release.
“Most participating venues allow one pass per year, per patron,” the release explains. Patrons also may have only one active pass at a time, it points out. “Passes may be digital or printable, depending on the venue,” the release notes, and they typically must be redeemed in advance for ticketed performances.
To celebrate the launch of Culture Pass, the release says, members of the public are invited to Flock to What’s New at the Library!, which will be held at Gulf Gate Library at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19. “This special evening will include interactive stations, entertainment and refreshments,” as Sarasota County Libraries staff members showcase “new innovative services and community partnerships,” the release adds.
Gulf Gate Library stands at 7112 Curtiss Ave. in Sarasota.
