County’s emergency management director to be guest speaker during March 17 Siesta Key Condominium Council Hurricane Seminar 2026

Sarasota County’s emergency management director will be the guest speaker during the Tuesday, March 17, Hurricane Seminar 2026 that the Siesta Key Condominium Council will host, that nonprofit organization has announced.

The program will begin at 3 p.m. at Siesta Key Chapel, which stands at 4615 Gleason Ave. on the north end of Siesta Key.

Sandra Tapfumaneyi will talk about expectations for the upcoming hurricane season and how residents and visitors can best prepare themselves for storms, the Council notes in a news release.

A question-and-answer session will follow her presentation, the release adds.

Tapfumaneyi joined the county staff in January 2024, after serving as chief of Lee County Emergency Management, her biography points out.

In 1923, the release continues, “She was recognized as the Chad Reed Emergency Management Professional of the Year by the Florida Emergency Preparedness Association,” and she received the Governor’s Hurricane Conference 2023 Bob Lay Award” for her leadership during Hurricane Ian’s strike on Southwest Florida.

In addition to Tapfumaneyi, Rachel Ingle, the City of Sarasota’s emergency manager, will be present for the discussion.

Copies of the latest edition of the county’s Emergency Preparedness Guide will be available at the Council meeting, the release adds.
