Sheriff’s Office charges Lake Tippecanoe resident after Nov. 10 shooting

A 75-year-old Sarasota man has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery in a Nov. 10 incident involving his wife, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has reported.
Robert Henry Hennings was arrested on Nov. 10, Dana Judge, media relations specialist with the agency, told The Sarasota News Leader in response to its inquiry regarding any updates in the case. He is being held without bond, she added.
Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division records note that Hennings, a retiree, is scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 12.
On Nov. 10, the Sheriff’s Office announced that it was investigating a reported battery involving a man and woman living in the 4500 block of Ottawa Trail in Sarasota; the incident occurred around 10:08 a.m. that day.
The address is in the Lake Tippecanoe community of Sarasota, which is east of McIntosh Road and south of Wilkinson Road, a map shows.
Upon arrival at the home, deputies discovered that a woman had been shot but was conscious, the news release explained. A rifle was found on the ground in the outside parking area, the release noted. The then-unidentified husband of the victim, who was present at the scene, had been detained, the release added.
“Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment,” the news release said.
Judge told the News Leader on Nov. 12 that the woman, identified as Annabelle Lee Hennings, was still alive, based on the most recent information Judge had learned from the investigators.
“Deputies conducted a thorough check of the residence to ensure there were no additional victims,” the Nov. 10 release added; none was found.
The home stands at 4512 Ottawa Trail, Judge told the News Leader.

The records maintained by Sarasota County Property Appraiser Bill Furst and his staff note that Robert and Annabelle Hennings bought their unit in late December 2015 for $106,000. The property has a homestead exemption, those records show.
A News Leader check of the records maintained by Karen Rushing, Sarasota County clerk of the Circuit Court and county comptroller, and her staff found no prior charges against Robert Hennings.
The arrest warrant was not available for public review as of the deadline for publication of this issue of the News Leader.
