March 6 deadline set for applications

Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner is accepting applications for a $1,200 scholarship to be awarded by the Florida Supervisors of Elections Association (FSE) in 2026, Turner’s staff has announced.
The FSE is offering a total of three scholarships to eligible college or university juniors and seniors “who have been residents of Florida for at least the prior two years and who are registered to vote in the county where applying for the scholarship,” a news release explains.
“Each year, FSE supports deserving students who are preparing for careers in public service through these scholarship opportunities,” Turner said in the release. “I strongly encourage eligible students from Sarasota County to apply,” he added.
To be eligible, an applicant must meet the following qualifications, the release says:
- Be enrolled or accepted as a full-time student in a senior college or university in Florida.
- Maintained a “C” average or above during the previous school year.
- Majoring in political science, public administration, business administration, journalism or mass communications.
“Additional eligibility requirements are listed on the application and in the scholarship guidelines, which are available online at SarasotaVotes.gov, the release notes. Applications also may be picked up at any of the following elections offices:
- Sarasota County Terrace Building, standing at 2001 Adams Lane in downtown Sarasota.
- R.L. Anderson Administration Center, located at 4000 S. Tamiami Trail in Venice.
- Biscayne Plaza, standing at 13640 Tamiami Trail in North Port.
The deadline to apply for a scholarship is March 6, the release points out. “Applications must be submitted to the elections office of the county in which the applicant is registered to vote,” the release emphasizes.
For Sarasota County residents, applications may be delivered in-person to any one of the elections offices listed above or mailed to Supervisor of Elections, PO Box 4194, Sarasota, FL 34230-4194.
