“Beat the heat and activate your brain power this summer with Sarasota County’s Civics 101,” Sarasota County has announced.
The citizen’s academy is an opportunity for residents to get a closer look at how their local government functions, thanks to presentations, tours and hands-on activities, a news release explains.
County staff has begun accepting applications for the course, which will run from June 21 through Aug. 9; sessions will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m., the release adds.
The class is free, the release points out, but seating is limited. The session will feature county departments, such as Emergency Services; Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources; Libraries and Historical Services; and the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension program, the release notes.
Applications are available on the county website, scgov.net (keywords: Civics 101). Interested parties also may call the county Contact Center at 941-861-5000 or email neighbor@scgov.net.
