Garbage and recycling collections to remain on normal schedule
City and County of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 20, in observance of the Presidents Day holiday, the local governments have announced.
Garbage and recycling collection schedules will not be affected by the holiday, they have pointed out.
Hours of operation at city recreation and cultural facilities will be as follows:
- Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, located at 2650 Waldemere St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be closed.
- Payne Park Tennis Center, located at 2050 Adams Lane in downtown Sarasota,will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34th St., will be open from 6 to 10 a.m.
- The box office of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The regular City Commission meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, which stands at 1565 First St. in downtown Sarasota.

Sarasota County Government’s holiday schedule
Along with county administrative offices, the following will be closed on Feb. 20:
- The Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) administrative office.
- Libraries and Historical Resources’ branches and administrative office.
- Mosquito Management, Veterans, and Health and Human Services centers and administrative offices.
- Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department recreation centers and Knight Trail Park and Outdoor Shooting Complex.
- The administrative offices at the Central County Landfill, located at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, and the Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center, which stands at 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota.
- Sarasota County’s Chemical Collection Center and The Re-Uz-It Shop, both located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota.
- The Chemical Collection Center located at 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice has been closed indefinitely because of the impacts from Hurricane Ian in late September 2022.
SCAT bus services, Transit Plus, OnDemand, and the Siesta Key Breeze trolley will operate at their normal hours, the county news release says.
The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County also will be open, along with the Central County Landfill, located at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, and the Citizens’ Convenience Center at 4010 Knights Trail Road.
