City and County of Sarasota announce holiday hours; no change to garbage and recycling collection

City and County of Sarasota administrative offices and most county facilities will be closed Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26 and again on Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, in observance of the holidays, the local governments have announced.

Garbage, recycling and yard waste will be collected as usual, with no changes to pickup during the holidays, both the city and county have announced.

Hours will vary at City of Sarasota recreational facilities, a news release says.

Bobby Jones Golf Club, located at 1000 Circus Boulevard, is open 365 days a year; it will host the 9th Annual Reindeer Games on Christmas Day starting at 8:45 a.m., the news release notes. Click here for details. Golfers also will be able to enjoy 18 holes of play on the American Course and nine holes on the Gillespie Executive Course, with the last tee times at 11 a.m., the release adds.

The Lido Pool will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34th St., will have the following hours, the release adds:

  • Saturday, Dec. 24, to Monday, Dec. 26: Closed.
  • Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017: Closed.
  • Monday, Jan. 2, 2017: Open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

County libraries will be closed Dec. 23-26, a county news release notes. On New Year’s Eve, all libraries will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. They will be closed Jan 1 and 2, and then they will reopen on Jan. 3, the release adds.

Arlington Park and Aquatic Center will be open on Dec. 23 and on New Year’s Eve from noon to 5 p.m., the release continues. The Payne Park Tennis Center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 23 and Dec. 26 and from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 2, the release continues.

The Knight’s Trail Park pistol and rifle range will be closed Dec. 22-27. It will be open during normal operating hours, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, the release says.

The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County, which is a state agency, will be closed on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

No Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) bus service will be provided on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1, the release points out. Regular bus service will operate on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. SCAT administrative offices will be closed on Dec. 23 and 26 and on Jan. 2, the release adds.

Sarasota County’s chemical collection center and the ReUzIt Shop at 8750 Bee Ridge Road will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan 1. The chemical collection center at 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice will be closed Dec. 24-27 and Jan. 1. The Citizens Convenience Center at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, the release says.

The Central County Landfill, located at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Sarasota, will be open during regular hours Dec. 23, Dec. 24 and Jan. 2, the release notes. The landfill administrative offices will be closed Dec. 23, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.
