The City of Sarasota has begun using the email domain @SarasotaFL.gov, it has announced.

The city’s Information Technology Department “recently migrated all City of Sarasota email addresses to @SarasotaFL.gov to leverage technology efficiencies and prepare for future system upgrades,” a news release explains.

“Individuals, especially those who email City of Sarasota employees regularly, should be aware of the change,” said Herminio Rodriguez, Information Technology Department director, in the release. “This was a planned, coordinated migration which the IT team worked on diligently. It’s important for the public to know this is a sanctioned move by the City of Sarasota,” Rodriguez added.

For an example, the release continues, the standard email address is Firstname.Lastname@SarasotaFL.gov.

Initially, some email servers may not recognize the new email domain and send communications from the City of Sarasota to a spam folder, the release cautions. “Those emails should be deemed safe by the user and forwarded to the appropriate inbox,” it adds.

Every email address throughout every department is affected — approximately 1,000 — including those of the city commissioners, the city manager, Neighborhood & Development Services, Parks & Recreation, Public Works, the Sarasota Police Department, Utilities, and the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, the release adds.
