The Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast is inviting local artists of all ages and experience levels to enter their original work in the nonprofit’s inaugural Community Art Show.

“With a focus on paintings and drawings, this juried art exhibit will showcase local natural lands through the eyes of the community at large,” an April 3 news release explains. “Submissions must be Florida-centric and showcase nature.”

“We are thrilled to introduce this new community event,” Christine P. Johnson, president of the Conservation Foundation, said in the release. “For years we have partnered with professional artists to promote the protection of natural resources through exhibits and receptions at our Bay Preserve headquarters. Now, we’re inviting the community to share their work too!”

The Foundation offices are in Osprey.

The contest categories are divided by age, the release notes. A youth category is for artists age 12 and under; a teen category is for artists ages 13 to 17; and an adult category is for artists 18 and older.

“A jury will determine which pieces make it into the final exhibit,” the release points out. The jurors are fine artist and naturalist Jean Blackburn; fine artist Mary Louise O’Connell; and Lindsey Simonds, artist and founder of Litore Studio.

Each artist may submit up to two pieces for jury consideration, the release says. Submissions will be accepted no later than midnight on April 30, the release points out. “Jurors will review all submissions and select which works will be included in the inaugural exhibit, which will be displayed at Bay Preserve from June through August, the release adds. The opening reception will take place on Wednesday, June 5, from 5 to 7 pm. Registration is required.
